At Sandford we provide our children with a varied and broad curriculum. We follow the National Curriculum 2014 and EYFS Framework which set out the expectations at each stage of school. . We teach our children the importance of good learning behaviours in order for them to become learners for life.
Our teaching in each class is based around a termly theme. In Key Stage 1 we teach phonics daily through the Letters and Sounds Programme and older children are taught spelling each day. Our termly learning is enhanced by trips out of school and we frequently have visitors join us to enhance our curriculum. In addition, our Key Stage 2 children benefit from an annual residential visit.
Our children are fortunate to able to benefit from specialist music and PE teaching each week as well as the option for private instrumental lessons. Our site is enhanced by our well stocked library, interactive whiteboards in each room, well used field, outdoor quiet area, Trim Trail, Bubble space and chicken area. We also have access to the larger Parish Hall when required.
Our experienced teaching assistants provide support for specific 1:1 needs, pastoral provision and learning intervention both within and outside of the classroom.
We know that children’s enjoyment and progress at school is greatly enhanced by parental involvement. To that end we provide parents with an overview of the teaching and learning that will be happening in their child’s class. Strategies and ideas for supporting learning at home are shared with parents and provided on the website. There are opportunities to share learning through Open Afternoons, parent appointments and information workshops. We provide a written annual report and ongoing access to our online assessment system SPTO. However, we value regular contact with parents and so teachers are available on a daily basis on the playground each morning.
