Friends of Sandford School

Who are we?

Yes, it’s rather a mouthful to use our full name.  You will more usually hear the term FOSS used to make life a little easier.  The word ‘friend’ means exactly that….it means mums, dads, carers, teachers, aunts, uncles, grandparents, ex-parents and members of the local community who support Sandford School.  We are incredibly privileged to have such a wide level of support for this school, both within the school and in the wider Sandford and surrounding communities.

What do we do?  

We organise events to help towards the funding of a variety of ‘extras’ for the children at school.  In the past few years, this has included specialist sports coaching and sports equipment, continually upgrading the IT provision within school, subsidising school trips, provision of a good selection of books within the classrooms and continuing support of music, drama and art.  We generally meet every term at school, alternating between daytime and evening meetings to ensure everyone has an opportunity to attend.  The meetings are very informal with the focus being on putting our heads together to discuss fundraising ideas over coffee and biscuits.  New faces are welcomed with open arms as we can hopefully come up with some new ideas as well as getting feedback from parents about school in general.  We send newsletters home via the children to inform everyone of forthcoming events and to get you to write important dates on your calendars!

Why do we do it?

Of course, the children at school reap the rewards of all the success that FOSS achieves but, equally, it’s a great way for school families and the community as a whole to get together on a social level – we do aim to have fun in amongst the work.

As a registered charity, we have to have certain officers in place to govern the charity.  At present, (January 2010), the officers are:
